- Artistic research - temporary artistic intervention in public space - installation - booklet -
During a six month long research on the gentrification process of the center of Berlin, we became interested in how former residents like artists and people, who have cultivated an alternative lifestyle, have gotten used to creating a new and attractive image of the neighborhood. We focused on current advertising slogans for new and expensive condos like townhouses, urban villages and artist villages.
We realized, that those former wastelands, on which new condos have been built, had turned into something that we now call "lifestyle-wastelands". Artists, activists, poor and old people are gone.
We started to wonder: How can we, as artists, intervene in this trend instead of just moving on to another poor neighborhood to prepare for its gentrification?
In addition to temporary interventions in the urban space, we exhibited a mixed-media installation and produced an artistic booklet.
