This work reflects on the city improvement area Rummelsburger Bucht Berlin. We were especially interested in to what extent privatizing had an impact on the area's histography.
As a former work camp for poor and homeless people during National Socialism and a prison for political prisoners during the GDR, in 2007 the municipal buildings were purchased by a private investor and were transformed into a fancy living area.
Through audio-interviews, photography and temporary artistic interventions in public space, we questioned the histography. How does history remain visible and how is a new appearance produced? To what extent does the process of privatization avoid a proper analysis, recognition and memory of the "asocial" stigmatized victims of the National Socialism?
We interviewed 20 stakeholders who were involved in the ongoing planning process: politicians, architects, investors, residents, political activists, former prisoners. In a sound installation we put the controversial positions on a "round table".
Additionally to the sound-video-installation we invited for an interventionist, artistic walk through that area.
